Benefits of a Low Mass Boiler

A Low Mass BoilerA low mass boiler holds many advantages to traditional alternatives. The term ‘boiler’ usually brings to mind a large, steel or cast iron unit fitted with high-diameter pipes. Built to hold larger amounts of water, these units are very efficient at holding a high amount of heat and retaining it for a long period of time. The addition of modulating and condensing configurations also provides another reason that oil water heater units have become very popular. However, while these units do have many perks, they are very heavy, bulky, and often take a long time to heat.

Low mass boilers are a convenient alternative to these common models. In addition to being smaller and lighter, these units can heat pipes very quickly. In contrast to the larger pipes in high mass heaters, these versions use smaller diameter pipes in order to minimize the time needed to achieve proper temperature. These units often feature non-corrosive and durable materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, and copper to allow for long-term use.

Quicker Heating and Lower Overall Costs

While larger units may have the power to generate more heat overall, in most cases speed is superior to overall levels of output. Low mass boilers may be lacking in the size department, but they’re perfectly capable of being efficient in most situations. Larger buildings with more water to heat may need a more powerful unit, but smaller and medium-sized buildings can achieve quicker results with a low mass boiler. This can prove to be very useful in the long-term, as costs will be lower and satisfactory results can be achieved much quicker.

A Spacious Alternative with Proven Stability

One of the most unappealing characteristics of larger systems is the fact that they are very bulky and can take up a large amount of space in any boiler room or utility space. Their smaller counterparts prove to be more efficient in removing clutter from these areas and allowing for other types of units and equipment to be stored in the same places. However the smaller size of these units should not cause one to believe that they lack power. On the contrary, they are able to control complex heating systems with multiple zones and a wide range of stages, settings, and temperatures. However if the unit is now found to be lacking due to the addition of new facilities, its small size provides another hidden advantage.

Multiple Units Can Work Together Seamlessly

Though capable, nimble, and light, low mass boilers can sometimes be deemed inefficient when it comes to meeting higher needs than usual in terms of heating. However while one unit may not suffice, other options are available. Several low mass boilers can be stacked in a line to provide the necessary power for handling changes in workload. The use of many smaller models can provide for an output as large as any heavier unit while allowing for an equal distribution of the workload among all units to provide extra stability. This is a very valuable feature to have during variable climates. The ability of these models to scale in order to meet the demand of increased use provides great long-term results.
